When by fortuitous coincidence the Conveners of the Mid-Atlantic Caribbean Alternative Dispute Resolution Institute (MACADRI) met in May 2014 at the historic and ground-breaking ICAMA (International Centre for Arbitration and Mediation, Abuja) conference hosted by our Patron in Abuja, a number of resolutions were concluded following the Abuja – Nassau Declaration. One of those resolutions was the proposal to embark on initiatives that would hasten the provision of training, workshops and education awareness programs in order to encourage alternative dispute resolution practitioners from countries with maritime boundaries within the Mid-Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea to develop high level alternative dispute resolution skills in arbitration, mediation conciliation, negotiation, expert determination and early neutral evaluation, etc.
